Metal Art

Art made from metal is something that will last you for a very long time. Metal is a material that is strong and thus evokes a sense of strength in the very use of this material. Whether it's gold, silver, or brass or platinum, there are many different types of metal that metal art may be made out of.

Wrought iron has a beautiful rustic quality to it. As a metal art form, you can really find some lovely pieces.

Everyone can have metal art and you probably already do: jewelry! But, for home decoration, you can often purchase a piece of metal art at a reasonable cost. Various home decor stores sell pieces of metal art that are mass produced, so not unique, however they still can have a decorative value in your home. Also, take a look at art galleries. Many metal artists display their art for sale in a gallery setting.

Display Metal Art

Where do you put your metal art? Metal art can be displayed in your home on a table, on the floor on the wall. The way the piece is constructed dictates what placement is most suitable. If it has a method for hanging it, then you can hang it on the wall. Be sure you have it attached to a stud as metal art can be very heavy. If it is a sculpture piece, then you may be able to have it on a table or else on the floor to display. Make sure that it is stable wherever you decide to put it. You wouldn't want your metal art falling over and damaging your floor let alone hurting someone who is innocently walking by.

Outdoor Metal Art

Metal sculptures are perfect decor for outside display. They are strong and weighty enough to prevent people from stealing them. Also, the material can usually withstand the elements over a long period of time. Be aware that some metals change colour with time and may even rust if not protected. Place an outside metal art sculpture at the end of your driveway to welcome visitors. You can also put small pieces in a garden or use them to flank a gateway.

Useful Metal Art

Metal art can be practical as well. Not only as a pleasing design and art piece, but you can also find many pieces which are functional. There is furniture, towel stands, mailboxes, house numbers, curtain rods, shelving brackets, tables and much more.

Learning the art of crafting art out of metal is not something that everyone can do. You need to have the welding tools or access to the tools. Soldering irons, blow torches, etc. There is a knack to it as well. Talent is hard to come by if you aren't born with it. If you have a vision and are interested in this craft, take a look at your local community college for some classes. Tools are usually readily available for students to use.

Whether you purchase metal art or make it yourself, it's a great way to enhance your home, inside or out!
