Dining Room Set

A dining room set can be the piece de resistance for your entire home.  It is worth investing a little time and money in selecting just the right set.  Purchasing a dining room set is definitely an investment.  It is also something that you will want to spend the time to carefully choose what you like.  The room will reflect you and your taste. It will become the showpiece of your home, you will serve family and guests at it and perhaps hold dinner parties using it.

Selecting the Right Dining Room Set

There are many things to consider when selecting a dining room set.  Cost alone should not be the only deciding factor.  This aspect needs to be considered in conjunction with other points.

What does your formal dinnerware look like?  When shopping for a new dining room set, it is a good idea to bring a small plate or saucer along.  This way you can actually set it up on the table in the showroom to see how it would look with your dinnerware.

Dining Room Decor

What about the decor in your dining room and the rest of the house?  The paint, the fabrics, the trim.  Are you planning on keeping the paint and window treatments?  If so, bring along a fabric swatch from your curtains or drapes and also a paint chip from the walls.  All of these things along with a sample of your dinnerware should be brought with you on your shopping trip.

Dining Room Set Material

Another thing to ask yourself when shopping for a new dining room set is, what is the material that the rest of the furniture in the room is made from?  Is it wrought iron, wood or something else?  If wood, is it oak, mahogany, pine or...?  Unless you are looking for an eclectic untraditional look, you will want to keep the furniture material uniform in the room.

Style

Style is something that pretty much comes down to personal preference.  Do you like traditional styled furniture or something more modern?  Straight lines, curved lines, etc.  Take a look online before beginning your shopping trip to get an idea of the type of styles you are partial to.  Keep in mind the decor of the rest of the room, however.  If you have fussy drapes, busy wallpaper and lots of fancy accessories and ornaments, you may want to keep your dining room set a little plainer.  If things are too busy in a room, it is difficult to look at for very long!

Whatever you choose for your new dining room set, have fun with it!  There is nothing like meeting the delivery guy at the front door and directing them to where to deposit the furniture.  Arrange it in the most pleasing fashion and have fun doing a practice run at the table place setting.  Then plan a dinner party and invite all your friends to come and see your new dining room set!
